Great Overview of Cisco Networking
I am a systems engineer that needed to come up to speed very fast on Cisco Networking. While I don’t consider myself a “Dummie” by any means, I thought, “for the money, I can’t go wrong.” I was right!!!! I found the book(s) laid out nicely for quick reference, and that it was able to take complexe and often confusing concepts and lay them out in clear, concise, and easy to understand language.I would recommend this book(s) to anyone needing to come up to speed on Cisco networking and basic configuraiton commands.

Great Networking Book
I started reading Networking for Dummies by Doug Lowe and found it to be an excellent starting point for the just starting networker but a little too basic for me.Cisco Networking for Dummies is just what I needed; something more advanced than the basics, but not something that would go over my head. It takes you through some of the basics found in Lowe’s book (if you need a brush up) and propels you into the world of frames, packets, Cisco device types, protocols, VLANs, and so much more. Very big book, but VERY helpful to get you going on that second step to networking.

A Good Technical Book for New Cisco Admins
I’m not an expert in Cisco network device management, but I have had the CCENT training. I needed a manual that covers most of the day-to-day work that needs to be done to keep a SMB (Small to Medium Business) network running, in addition to my sysadmin duties. This book helps a lot, and Edward Tetz is a great writer with a good sense of humor. I appreciate the real-world tips and tricks that the “official” documentation leaves out. One area that the book could improve is in setting up routing on Layer 3 switches, particularly as it pertains to VLAN management. The book gives scant mention of the way you might set this up, and I was particularly hoping that this subject would be covered in-depth. Other than that, the book has been very helpful, and you can easily jump into any section to find what you need. Overall, recommended for the CCENT user that needs a desk reference for their network.

I am Dummie, who loves these books.
Perfectly written books. Nothing but good words. I smile when i read the content. And things make sense to me. I would love it if they can came up with an economical simulator as well.I am new to Cisco Networking world. So after I have earned CCNA (hopefully before 9/30/13) I am diving in Cisco world.

Okay
The book has all the elements, but it is tedious to read if you have some knowledge already. It does take you through the various steps and I found it a little difficult trying to jump around. I don’t dislike the book, but I now believe the best way to learning this stuff is hands on and would seek out a network guy to help along with reading this book. Just my opinion and I don’t have a strong recommendation either way on this book. The Dummies Format is a proven one and works for most folks.

Excellent reference or teaching guide for all skill levels!
Arrived quickly, exactly as described. As with all of the For Dummies books, this is written in an easy to understand language, and is a great reference material for experienced network administrators, as well as a teaching guide for those just starting out in the field.

Impressive overview of Cisco
I was a student in the Cisco Networking academy from 2009-2011, and I bought this a few weeks ago to refresh what I learned there. Overall, it is a pretty good summary of basic Cisco networking. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a refresher course in networking.

Mr. P. Harvey –
I have lost count of the number of ‘… for Dummies’ books I have purchased over the years and I think this is number thirty-something. None of these books have proven to be poor value, quite the contrary, they are excellent books, well thought out and clearly written. They are even better value if purchased used, secondhand, nearly new or like new. This particular book concerns Cisco Networking and in my opinion Cisco itself publish the best books on this their own subject. This is not to say this ‘All-in-One’ book is greatly inferior. Its advantage is that it effectively embraces 6 books in 1 which has to be good value. Furthermore, much of this book’s content is based upon tried-and-tested Cisco texts which are noted for their clarity and ability to explain complex subjects both simply and succinctly. In common with all ‘… for Dummies’ books, the presentation style is aimed at American readers but also for English-speaking overseas markets. From what I have read, this book is intended for the beginner/intermediate reader seeking to learn or refresh their knowledge on what is a very complex technical subject. Advanced readers might like to consider Cisco’s own publications which can be purchased for even less money. The ‘… for Dummies’ book is littered with many dozens of illustrations and often pictures are used in place words to help illustrate a concept, frequently in a jokey-style, a hallmark of ‘… for Dummies’ books. If I had to carry just one book with me concerning Cisco Networking, this would be it.
