    how to do networking
I can’t recommend this book highly enough. You were asking the other day about networking stuff, routers, switches, hubs, network cards. This book will explain it all and more and it is an extremely easy read.Trust me, get this book, and you will be a networking geek, your entire house will be networked. I just glanced at it at a local bookstore for about a minute and i had about five questions about networking answered.I just saw it at a local bookstore and i just ordered it from amazon. i save $20.00 by getting it at amazon.i have a lot of these head first books and they are more than worth their money they are worth 10 other books on the same subject.

    Beginner’s networking
This book is really solid to start diving into networking concepts. It’s a fun read because of the humor involved, and it’s not dry like most IT books which is amazingly refreshing.

    Good enough.
A bunch of spelling errors, but great to have such a light breadth of the topic.

Make it easy to understand networking
I’ve read several books on networking. My first impression of this book was that it was kids. After reading it, while I didn’t care much for the childish presentation, the explanations and pictures make it really easy to understand and visualize how networks work from the micro (electricity) level to the macro (routers connected to each other around the world) level. If you find other networking books too thick, boring, and technical, try this one out. This book was definitely a nice surprise for me.

Your better off buying a Dummies Book
This book was recommended to me as a good introduction to networking. Talk about a mistake! I should have purchased Networking for Dummies. The authors introduce subject material then reinforce it with activities. Except they did such a poor job of explaining the topic, it is not possible to complete the exercises. An example would be “convert to ASCII using hexadecimal”. NO WHERE in the book does it tell you how they arrived at the answers. I finally went to Google where I found a conversion chart for 0 through F. I guess the authors were too busy with adding captions to pictures to include relevant information. You will find this is a pattern the authors repeat over and over. I would recommend buying a book with more substance and less flair.

I read Head First Java, Head First SQL, Head First Object-Oriented Analysis and Design and Head First Design Patterns and I just can say that they are all fantastic books. Step by step many concepts are taught in a funny way.Head First Network tries to use the same style of teaching, but it is not so funny, there are many errors and the contents are not very well disposed. The knowledge isn’t build chapter by chapter in a consistent way and in the end of the book there is a sensation that the time expended to read it wasn’t worthwhile.I forgot to say that a lot of exercises are not completely possible to solve considering what was explained in the previous pages and chapters. Examples of it are in the pages 309, 311, 343, 349, 351, 406, 449 and 460.I know that networking is a huge subject, but considering this is a Head First book, I expected much more.Rewrite this book, please. I’m sure you can do better.

Gives a good overview on networking and cover many unusual aspects that are interesting on their on (e.g. physical cabling considerations) but has many annoying typos in the text and exercises that broke the flow of learning.

Most of exercises depends a lot on colors, however, the book is black and white. That is my only bad remark.Other than that, from the content point of view, I like it.

First book with the head first concept for me, was interesting definitely more of a storyesque feel to it then a reference book.More for a beginner with a good flow of concept and ideas.

It is another excellent book in the HeadFIrst Series – peerless in terms of easing someone into the subject. However, it is in black and white – friend of mine has an electronic copy all in colour.
